Thermals and XC adventures right by the sea, all for you alone

Anamur is THE insider tip for your paragliding holiday right by the sea, far away from the areas in southern Turkey that are flooded by paragliding lemmings. You will get there in just 1.5 hours by car from Gazipaşa Airport (Alanya). So it is a destination which can be reached quickly during your flying holiday.

The Paragliding spots of Anamur and Kaledran are 35 km apart. Since there are no accommodations in Kaledran, the two areas are combined here. The basic tourist infrastructure from earlier times is available and offers everything you need for a paragliding holiday.

Each launch site has its own unique visual highlights. From Azi Tepesi you fly over the castle “Marmur Kalesi”. At the soaring edge above the Anamurium you can enjoy a wonderful view over the historical archaeological site – and despite the better overview, you save the entrance fees :-). Kaledran gives you an impressive view over the banana farms and the sand beach that invites you to land on the Mediterranean Sea. – You can enjoy a view that you would normally have to share with hundreds of nylon pilots almost for yourself here.

2 take offs above the region’s banana plantations and one above the ancient Anamurium archaeological site, together with the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, offer a breathtaking backdrop for extended soaring flights in the coastal wind. But extended CX flights for those who are hungry for thermals in front of a breathtaking backdrop are also possible.

3 different launch sites from 150 m to 830 m ASL altitude. The main wind directions of the south-facing coastline are covered by the respective launch sites. The reliable coastal wind ensures constant lift in soaring conditions. In between, thermals mix along the surrounding mountain flanks.

The lush green of the banana farms over which you fly blend seamlessly into the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

Flying above water

Note that flying over water always requires an automatic life jacket and carrying a cutter knife! Life jackets cannot be rented on site.

Attention firefighting planes in summer

On the back of the soaring edge in front of the Anamur take-off site is a helipad for fire-fighting helicopters and a dock fire-fighting planes. These are stationed there during the summer months (forest fire season). If helicopter noises are heard, the airspace must be left immediately, as these can then unexpectedly fly over the grade. In addition to the direct risk of collision, wake vortexes from helicopters are large-scale and dangerous for paraglider pilots over a long period of time.

Perfect soaring and thermal conditions with great views

Anamur / Kaledran is an insider tip for your paragliding holiday with the best conditions far away from the well-known streams of paragliding travellers and mass tourism. A hitherto undiscovered corner that undoubtedly offers the potential for unforgettable flights. The framework program is manageable but more than sufficient for a paragliding holiday.

Typically, summer – April to September – is the best time. But even in winter there are very good, slightly easier and not quite as constant conditions. Ideal for private paragliding holidays for yourself or for group trips such as association and club trips.

Pilot level

Independent pilots, minimum requirement IPPI P4

3 different take off sites offer enough variety in Anamur / Kaledran. For each take-off site there is a landing site within sight, which the pilot can see at all times. Without a doubt, the Anamurium is the easiest take-off site, which is easy to fly, especially for beginners. But even advanced pilots will find almost endless time and space to play around in hour-long soaring sessions.

Landing at the water

Especially when landing at Bozdogan Beach (Banana Shop), this has only a very narrow strip to offer at high tide at the east end. The glider must be put down on land – in case of doubt in the bushes / palm trees. Dropping the Glider in the water can quickly become life-threatening, even in light swell.

Experienced Pilots

In Anamur, but also in Kaledran, you can start small and medium-sized XC tours along the mountain flanks or terrain contours. These are actually only limited by the lack of return travel options.

Tandem flights / Passenger flights

A local tandem pilot offers passenger flights for locals and guests. Professionally conducted tandem flights are offered in different languages and can be booked with us.

Lessons

Some local flight schools use the area to train IPPI2-4 level pilots. There are no classes offered for international guests..

Soaring session of my life!

26. August 2022

Had a great flying session from the Anamurium in 2021. 3 hrs of soaring over the ancient city below with almost to 350m AGL thanks so a bit thermal lift.

Just a breathtaking experience and a great overview over the archaeological site along with the beach and sea.
