Particularities:

A completely underestimated flying area in Turkey is the area around Ödemis, between Izmir and Denizli / Pamukkale. 4 flying areas of 585 to 1240 m altitude difference and covers all take-off directions.

The Bozdag take-off site has great thermal / XC potential in the valley. And even in winter, the roads to the launch site are easily accessible here.

Especially in winter, Bozdag and the surrounding area is one of the best flying areas in Turkey. In summer there are certainly more thermally active areas. But for hunters of moderate and controllable thermals in not too crowded flying areas also in summer a hot tip.

Thermals and XC near Izmir

The spacious take-off area and the equally spacious landing area offer a safe environment even for less experienced pilots. Mothe than 1000 m altitude difference is even fun when thermally nothing works at all. However, the southern exposure of the mountain range there almost always guarantees thermal development.

Along the main edge of the launch site, even less experienced pilots can extend their flights. The 12 km long ridge lets the kill-meter run without great skill. At the same time, you can turn into the valley at any time, where there are plenty of outlanding areas.

The ambitious distance hunter can be transferred to the NE to the summit of Bozdag and then aim for Denizli / Pamukkale from there in the direction of the OSE.

The neighbouring ski area of Bozdag (1650 – 2250 m) offers good opportunities for a combined paragliding and skiing holiday in winter.

Perfect paragliding conditions for extended thermal flights

A completely underestimated flying area in Turkey is the area around Ödemis, between Izmir and Denizli / Pamukkale. Surrounded by the two mountain ranges Boz Daglari in the north and Aydin Daglari in the south, the valley offers 4 flight mountains of approx. 800 and approx. 1240 m altitude difference and covers almost all take-off directions.

The Bozdag take-off site has the greatest thermal / XC potential here. It is easy to fly, but also has regularly usable thermals in winter. On thermally more active days you can easily fly medium XC routes. The 100 km to Pamukkale have been flown from here many times. But even on calm days, the almost 1000 m altitude difference offers enough airtime to enjoy and have fun.

Normally, the thermals form along the mountains in a narrow space. There are hardly any thermals above the Ödemis valley.

However, due to the lack of tourist infrastructure, the flying area will certainly remain dormant for some time and remain an insider tip.

Pilot level

Independent pilots, minimum requirement IPPI P4

With 5 different launch sites, Ödemis offers plenty of variety and all launch directions during your paragliding holiday. Little tourist infrastructure and few alternative programmes except in Izmir.

Between 550 and 1250 altitude difference, even pure gliders in calm air offer potential to enjoy and have fun.

In the summer months there can be strong thermals over midday/afternoon. Depending on your level, avoid these hours to avoid overexertion.
